Regional Overview

With a total population of 25 million people, and perhaps the highest standard of living in the world, the Nordic region has a booming economy. The region is a technologically advanced market, with high acceptance of new technology, and early adopters when it comes to hardware, software products and telecommunications products. The region is highly industrialized, with a modern distribution system, excellent internal and external communications, and a skilled labor force. The excellent natural resource base and a stabile political climate are the pillars of a robust economy that is heavily oriented towards foreign trade.

You will find as many as 125 Nordic-based companies on Deloitte’s list of “Fast 500” companies.

English is a second language for most Scandinavians so communicating with the natives will not be a constraint in growing your company’s revenue in the region!
The climate for new investments in high-tech is good throughout the Nordic region, and the following industry sectors are highly developed and strong candidates for technology investments:

· Oil and offshore exploration – Norway is the world’s third largest petroleum exporter, after Saudi Arabia and Russia. The oil sector is a major component of industrial investments in technology.

· High tech, telecom. Spin-off companies and continued focus on mobile technologies around Nokia (Finland) and Ericsson (Sweden) have brought the region to the forefront of wireless and mobile technology.

· The banking and finance sectors are probably among the most IT intensive sectors -and regions in the world - as goes for the insurance industry.

· As a result of the Nordic Region’s high standard of living and increasing purchasing power, the Fast Moving Consumer Goods sector is growing steadily year by year.

· Steel, automotive (Volvo, Saab), forestry and agriculture are typical strong industry sectors in Sweden, Finland and Denmark, and Norway’s fishing industry’s export value is almost at the same level as the oil-export
